As we begin a new year, we bring it a new set of goals, aspirations, struggles and of course, contradictions. The new photoset by Parisian photographer Oliver Humbert uses the most essential contradiction of darkness and lightness at the heart of his new series, "Juliette". Humbert fuses these ideas to create an entirely new atmosphere which seems to create a new set of opposites that is inviting yet awkward and beautiful yet ugly. A striking set of images that pull you in with their allure while giving you pause with their mystery.

From the artist:
The goal of this series was to combine contradictions, starting by creating a binary rhythm between darkness and brightness. The combination of these two concepts allows a homogeneous and analog result.
These two atmosphere are often separate from each other, because of the clashes between them. The will to juxtapose these two allowed room for the creation of a true inexpressible vibe.
It's simple to put words on notions such as darkness and brightness.
However, the two united states give birth to a new atmosphere which can arouse awkwardness, a secret part, by the complexity to define this atmospheric vibe.
We create a universe around women in the same logic. First, the binary combination between darkness and brightness reflect our own representation of women.
Like the contradictions that lay in these women: shadow and light, day and night; women is, in this way, seen as a mystic creature. An untold secret worship.
But women are the results of other contradictions.
The underlying objective of this series is to reveal womens' beauty through their imperfections.
Beauty has a meaning only because it is inseparable from ugliness.
